My submission to the SSFBB Challenge

Hey, guys. It's sort of my first time posting here, and my first Die Hard fanfic is done for the SFBB Challenge. Here's the info:

Convalescence by Atuinsails
NC-17. Die Hard. Slash. Romance. BDSM.
Written for 2008 Challenges.
John and Matt convalesce together. Yeah, that kind of together. Some Holly-bashing, and some possible OOC John. Just borrowing, and I've given them back cleaner than I found them, promise.

That Die Hard link should take you to the rest of the Die Hard fanfics there. Thanks.

"A Hogwarts Night's Tale" Cheats
For those of you who have been playing my HP interactive fiction game A Hogwarts Night's Tale, I've uploaded some cheats for the game. You can find maps and a detailed walkthrough here:

Cheats

WARNING: These cheats provide spoilers for the entire game. If you don't want to be told exactly how to solve each puzzle, don't download them! If you're stuck and only want a nudge in the right direction, the game comes with a built-in hint system. If that isn't sufficient, feel free to ask me and I'll be happy to give you further hints if needed.

I was off last week, a spontaneous vacation that ended up mostly working on house projects that have been half completed for 2-3 years and are now... slightly more than half completed. It was nice to be off though, to sleep in and wear shorts and act like it was summer vacation.

I spaced two birthdays, happy belated to [info]bant and [info]majilique! I hope you ladies had fabulous birthdays.

My holiday weekend
Sadly, my major response to July the 4th was WHEEEEE, DAY OFF! Part of which I spent watching the series finale of The Magnificent Seven with [info]flambeau, the first ep of Little Mosque on the Prairie, and the last two eps of last season's Venture Brothers, which I had somehow failed to watch.

Saturday, I spent no time on the computer at all for the first time in what seems weeks, which is very unusual for me (to go that long without a break). I have this sort of love-hate relationship with my computer/the online world; I wouldn't want to do without it, and I'm fairly dependent on it in some ways, but when I'm off it for a day or two, I sometimes think I'd be happier if I didn't go back at all.

Today I went with [info]gunhilda and [info]wolfgrrrrl to see Wall-E, which was charming and delightful and I'll just ignore my reactions to the state of future humanity. Then I impulsively sneaked in to see The Hulk, which was a perfectly nice event movie of the testosterone-laden property damage sort, but which mostly made me want to see Ang Lee's version again, as I remember enjoying that much more, as it actually made me think a little. I've never been a huge Hulk fan, in general, so a straight-forward Hulk storyline isn't likely to really do a lot for me.

I went totally intent on movie popcorn and soda, and I suspect that's the last time for a long time. They've upped a large popcorn to $7, which is more than the movie ticket cost for a matinee, and the soda was over $5. I ended up with a combo that basically gave me free Twizzlers, but given that the core components were popcorn and fountain syrup, both of which are huge moneymakers for those what sells them, I'll definitely go back to smuggling in my own water and go with that. If I want to spend $20 to see a movie I'll buy the DVD.

I have once more proven to myself the inadvisability of reading the reactions of others about almost anything I have enjoyed by poking through reactions to the Doctor Who finale. I wonder if the difference is that however much I love various companions, I watch for the Doctor and his ongoing journey, and therefore I'm usually left happier (or unhappy in the best ways) than many other people are. Maybe. I dunno, for whatever reason the things that got to other people didn't get to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

And now I'm going to find something to read before hopefully going to be before too late....

For some reason, I find the below sig immensely cheering and sanguinary. Sanguinatory. Sanguinificatory. ish.

Why shouldn't things be largely absurd, futile, and transitory? They are so, and we are so, and they and we go very well together. --George Santayana

BUSY WEEKEND
1. Hope everyone enjoyed the Fourth of July/AX/the weekend in general! I had a good time; bbq plus fireworks always equals A+ in my book. :)

2. Happy birthday to [info]sandrock and [info]hanashiki! ♥

3. So I'm completely late this week in posting about the latest KHR chapter, but in brief: 1) SQUALO IS AWESOME, 2) OH HELL YES CHROME, and 3) Ouch, Yama. Ouch. XDDD

And I still want it to end with a shark.

Rampant Disease by triedunture (R)
Fandom: HOUSE MD
Pairing: House/Wilson (eventually)
Length: 7 chapters plus epilogue; I'm guessing 35,000 words
Author on LJ: [info]triedunture
Author Website: Fics by tag on LJ
Why this must be read:

A confession. Up until ten minutes ago, I thought this fic was named "Zombie fic!" Which explains the phrasing of my rec:

With a name like that, it has to be crack, right? Except it isn't. Taut, suspenseful, fantastic characterization, great use of characters and setting, and not one thing gratuitous. The emphasis is on mystery and suspense, so if you like those, you should read this, whether you're a fan of zombies or not.

Behind, but making good time.
I have not done well at tracking my movements of late, but to sum up a bit:

Cooking:
1) Banana chocolate-chip muffins recced from [info]wordplay turned out awesome.
2) Italian sausage sandwiches were great, the attempt at calzone was not, whole-wheat rotini with sauce and sausage were back to fantastic.
3) Ambrosia with [info]wojelah = fantastic.
4) Everything [info]wojelah made this weekend, including watermelon cocktails and guacamole = fantastic.
5) Grilling Omega Steak Co. burgers in the George Foreman grill = win.

Reading:
1) "Nickel & Dimed: On Not Getting by in America" by Barbara Ehrenreich
2) "Bait & Switch" by Barbara Ehrenreich*
3) "Young, Fabulous, & Broke" by Suze Orman
4) "The Frugal Woman's Guide to a Rich Life" published by iVillage (look, it helped me get my sink unclogged)
5) "Territory" by Emma Bull
6) "On the Other Hand Death" by Richard Stevenson (a Donald Strachey mystery - haven't tracked down the movies yet)
7) "Strong Poison" by Dorothy Sayers (a Lord Peter Wimsey mystery)*

* = not completed yet

Watching:
1) SGA comes back next week! Whee!
2) Army Wives
3) In Plain Sight ([info]shetiger, I must know of this spoiler where Marshall is not gay, because I haven't seen anything to the contrary yet. *crosses fingers in hope*) Never mind. :P
4) Burn Notice (I watched the first episode today because [info]thepouncer recommended it so highly. I will be watching the rest of the first season on the www.usanetwork.com/series/burnnotice site over the next few days - season 2 starts on Thursday)
5) Eureka (will be rewatching the first 2 seasons in anticipation of season 3 starting on July 29th)

Writing:
1) [info]artword fic with [info]tardis80 - I think I finally figured out where the whole thing was derailing, which was much earlier than I thought, and am going back to fix. I'm on like, version 4. Seriously. Sometimes I hate my brain.
2) Sweet Charity fic, which I am already pathetically late on. That seems to be my trend for the year. [info]reccea has banned me from doing anything else with a deadline, thank goodness.

Also:

I promised [info]wojelah I'd repost this, and then when I started going through it, I realized that it was the first half of the 200 Best Loved Books meme that was going around a few years ago. And that I haven't read anything else on that list since my project to read (or re-read) all 200 petered out. So, I'm posting this, but with some shame.

brokeback motherfucking aquaman
Hello, all, I'd like to introduce you to my crackdealer, [info]dancinbutterfly. She is responsible for my having seen Iron Man after prevacirating over whether or not to see it for months, and she is also now responsible for a pretty gargantuan obsession with Entourage.

Why hadn't I seen Entourage before now when I so clearly and obsessively love Jeremy Piven, you ask? I DON'T FUCKING KNOW.

Ari Gold is the fucking shit. Vince is the cutest thing ever. Eric, who I thought was a tool, has grown to be loved a whole hell of a lot by me. Kevin Dillon has always been love, and Turtle DEFINES love. I want to date Turtle and have all his little Turtle babies!

I also bring you "is it even possible for me to write Ari Gold" ficcage. And let me tell you, whether I've got his voice or not, writing for Jeremy Piven is a fucking orgasm, pure and simple.

It was going to be Ari/E, because there's just something about them that screams "angry sex" to me, and the only reason it's not Vince/E (who are so clearly in love and are doing it like rabbits) is because I'm so in love with Ari I had to try him out first. There's also the possibility that I will wind up writing about 5,000 Ari/Mrs. Ari fics, except I don't know what the hell to call her besides Mrs. Ari or Baby. LMFAO. How hilarious is it that she doesn't have a freakin' NAME?

Anyway. Let me know what you think.

rated r, because can YOU write Ari Gold without dropping the f-bomb five million times? )

Ficdump!
Amazing what you can accomplish when you've got an out of town wedding to attend and a little old Jornada that you can touch-type on underneath the table skirt... of course, the typos were pretty heinous, but that's what the drive back was for...

  • FF7/Fruits Basket crossovers:
    • Pt. 1 (already posted), Sephiroth and Tohru: The Edge of the Map
    • Pt. 2 (new this weekend), Zack and Tohru: Cruel and Unusual
    • (hopefully coming soon:) Pt. 3, Aeris and Tohru: Fairytale Endings

  • FF7/VS, Zack and Sydney, Rules of the Game

  • FF7/Bleach, Yoruichi and Zack, Tug of War

  • Discworld/VS, Granny Weatherwax and Sydney, Tournament of Lies

  • FF12/Bleach, Balthier and Yoruichi, Basic Instinct

6 fics in a couple days? go me! okay yeah they're mostly really short, but it's still kinda a speed record for me. XDD Now if only the Jornada had wireless...
